27. Visit a monastery

Although I would have preferred an opportunity to spend an extended period of time while living with the monks, this is the closest I’ve been able to come so far and will count it as completed.  Got to visit several of the Angkor temples, wander about, see the sites, meditate in their pagodas, and witness them pray and partake in a special initiation ceremony.

Was a very eye-opening experience.  Wasn’t sure what to expect with the meditating, but as soon as the first gong went off, my mind went completely blank, and for the first time in a long time, my mind was cleared and I felt at peace.  Felt absolutely amazing and can’t wait to go back and do it again!!

The next time I attempt this one tho, I would prefer somewhere completely isolated, maybe in the Tibetan mountains somewhere.  Embrace the culture, live how they live, eat what they eat, just… See exactly what it takes to find that peace that they all seem to have.  Watching and feeling how at peace they all seemed to be… no distractions, no worries, no… Well, no unhappiness!  Something to truly witness and be part of!
