9. Be a paid actor

I have no clue where the desire to be an actor came from.  I’ve always been a shy individual, but maybe the idea of being someone else, even if only for a short while, intrigued me.  Especially when I was younger, any escape from reality was chased after.  And then, after meeting the most influential person of my life who has since gone on to become a famous model and actress, that desire to do or share anything with her pushed me even further.  In my pursuit, I took a few acting lessons and was offered extra roles in movies such as Remember the Titans, Dumb and Dumber 2, Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius, amongst others, but had to decline because of college and basketball.

The 1 role I did land, however, was one of the funnest experiences of my life.  I was a lead extra for a pilot for WB called In My Life.  It filmed in various locations around Atlanta and centered around the desegregation of the schools in the south and the first African-American to play basketball for the high school team.  I was Calvin, captain of the basketball team.  I had 2 close friends with me filming as well as other basketball players and several other acquaintances in various roles.  I remember the wrodrobe giving me the shortest shorts I had ever seen along with the tightest jersey to wear along with a nice, click parted haircut to fit the time.  Every time I sit back and think of it, I can’t help but to laugh.

We got to show all the real actors how to play basketball, drive classic cars which had been restored to new and we acted as if we were the main people on set the entire time.  Befriended the director and all the assistants so received special treatment from food to scene placement and even got away with being hungover half the time.  i would give anything to find a copy, but even my friends in Hollywood cannot get a hold of it.  I hope to do more in the future, hopefully through endorsements and commercial work, but only time will tell.
